naturalista (natural feminista) ~ my healthy hair journey
I was a feirce naturalista before Black NATURAL Hair Care became a phenomenon.

I stopped perming my hair in grade nine and decided to embrace my natural curls. I wanted big curly hair like Vibrant Thang video girl, Leila Arcieri and was determined to get it!

When I was 14, I went to Jazma Salon in Toronto, did the big chop and embraced my curly hair. I loved my curls right up until when I had my daughter.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, my hair grew like crazaay. I decided to flat iron my hair just to see how much it had actuallly grown and from the moment I realized how thick and long my hair was, I became hooked to wearing it straight !

This all took place before the ceramic flat iron became popular and so I would go to the hairdresser every other weekend to get my hair pressed with those really hot oven irons.
When I needed to straigthen my hair at home I used the hottest Gold and Hot hot comb AND curling iron i could find and within months, I managed to completely destroy my hair !

Man, I’ve loved me some flat ironed hair over the years. Heat damage is an understatement when it comes to my hair. AN UNDERSTATEMENT!

I’ve been struggling to get back on the curly hair band wagon and the flat iron has been my main nemesis . I’m finally ready to commit to reuniting with my big, naturally curly hair and am DETERMINED to get my shoulder-length 3C curls to grow and retain length.
Here’s a breakdown of my goals:
Monthly Hair Growth Goal:
1/2 inch
1 Year Hair Growth Goal:
6 inches
Long Term Hair Length Goal:
24 inches
