Makeup Tips 4 Covering up your Flaws

Faking Flawless

As women, we are constantly trying to COVER UP OUR FLAWS and aim for perfection. Whether it be body flaws like cellulite or stretch marks or facial imperfections like blemishes or dark undereye circles, many of us have INSECURITIES about the minor flaws that actually make us REAL women and add character to our physical appearance.

No matter how often we are told that inner beauty is what’s important, we can’t help but agonize over our outward appearance.

But, let’s face it! When you look good, you feel good & in terms of the way in which people treat each other in society –the way you look and the way you carry yourself really do MATTER!

Check this out:

people tend to earn 5 % more an hour than their less comely colleagues. (Source: CNN.com)

Anyways, this supports what my mother has always told me “Always look your best because you never know who you might meet today.” This advice has stayed with me and as a result, it is a very rare thing for me to leave my house without my face done. Of course, I know I look fine without makeup and don’t need it! But, you have to admit makeup does COVER UP those little IMPERFECTIONS and enhance our best features – it takes us from looking good to looking AMAZING when done properly.

I’m often asked about my MAKEUP REGIMEN so I thought I’d share some of the tips that I’ve learned over the years.

Tiff’s Top 3 Cover-up Tips

1. Pick the Right Products!

One of my favourite beauty advice websites YgoY.com – advices us ladies to PICK THE RIGHT CONCEALERFOUNDATION & MAKEUP BRUSHES. You’d be surprised how many women don’t own concealer or foundation brushes – trust me, these tools make a huge difference in makeup application.

Also, do your research and make sure that the products you use are not going to aggravate your skin and give you more things to cover up!

2. Use a foundation one shade lighter then your concealer!

I haven’t found a CONCEALER yet that doesn’t leave me with an ashy/grey undertone or a cakey look. If you have the same issue, use a foundation one shade lighter than your foundation as concealer. Also, one common mistake women make when applying makeup is that they put their concealer on first – concealer should go AFTER liquid foundation and not before!

3. Embrace Black Liquid Eyeliner as your cover-up friend!

If you get a pimple on your face, don’t pop it, don’t even cover it up with concealer. Instead, use eyeliner and convert it into an INSTANT BEAUTY SPOTMY FAV!

Hopefully, these tips help you feel and look a little bit better.

I know for myself, covering up my imperfections and flaws can do wonders for my self-esteem. I’m sure you know what I mean -Sometimes that extra little boost in the way we look, can give us that extra little pep in our step.

What are your beauty tips for faking flawlessly AMAZING skin?

Naturally Curly Hair Washing Routine

Helloooo Naturalistas,

So my hair is far more healthier than it was a month ago. I’m experiencing less breakage and shedding and Nala and I are both beginning to retain length again.

When I decided to try and nurse my curly hair back to health – I started doing a lot of research on retaining length and proper hair care for naturally curly hair.

Some of the bloggers that I admire for their beautiful natural curls and great hair tips are:

Francesca of heyfranhey.com

Kim Love of kimmaytube.com

To make a long story short, I’ve done my research and discovered some of the mistakes I was making in regards to mine and Nala’s hair.

Here’s a breakdown of my revamped hair washing routine:

step one: detangle

I put my hair in sections and spray it with warm water. I then apply a mixture of my conditioner and coconut oil section by section, carefully detangling with my fingers.

*I’ve found that taking my time and doing this BEFORE I shampoo helps protect my hair against any breakage and further tangling.

step two: deep condition

I then apply even more deep conditioner and coconut oil, fully coating my hair section by section. I finish off by covering my hair with a shower cap and taking a long hot shower. Most times, I keep the DC in overnight. However,  if I have somewhere to go I’ll rinse it out after about 20-30 minutes and move on to the next step.

I find deep conditioning before  shampooing coats my hair and makes it softer and more manageable.

step three: cleanse

After I rinse out the DC, I shampoo my hair focusing on gently cleaning my scalp.

step four: condition

After shampooing once, I apply my conditioner, section by section and twist each section. I let the conditioner stay in my hair while I finish showering. I then rinse out the conditioner, while my hair is still in twists.

The next two steps involve moisturizing and sealing. Stay tuned for my next post on retaining length through moisturizing and sealing.

lots of love.

naturalista (natural feminista) ~ my healthy hair journey

I was a feirce naturalista  before  Black NATURAL Hair Care became a phenomenon.

I stopped perming my hair in grade nine and decided to embrace my natural curls. I wanted big curly hair like Vibrant Thang video girl, Leila Arcieri  and was determined to get it!

When I was 14, I went to Jazma Salon in Toronto, did the big chop and embraced my curly hair. I loved my curls  right up until when I had my daughter.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, my hair grew like crazaay. I decided to flat iron my hair just to see how much it had actuallly grown and from the moment I realized how thick and long my hair was, I became hooked to wearing it straight !

This all took place before the ceramic flat iron became popular and so I would go to the hairdresser every other weekend to get my hair pressed with those really hot oven irons.

When I needed to straigthen my hair at home I used the hottest Gold and Hot hot comb AND curling iron i could find and within months,  I managed to completely destroy my hair !

Man, I’ve loved me some flat ironed hair over the years. Heat damage  is an understatement when it comes to my hair. AN UNDERSTATEMENT!

I’ve been struggling to get back on the curly hair band wagon and the flat iron has been my main nemesis . I’m finally ready to commit to reuniting with my big, naturally curly hair and am DETERMINED to get my shoulder-length 3C curls to grow and retain length.

I’ve found the natural hair journey  a bit intimidating in the past because of the overwhelming amount of information online. I’ve been on hundreds of blogs and vlogs and will do my best to share my research and experience on growing strong, healthy, kinky, curly hair here.

Here’s a breakdown of my goals:

1 Year Hair Growth Goal:

Long Term Hair Length Goal:
